I am Padmanav. I am chef, a baker and have a great love for food.
One of my earliest memories in life is helping my mom in kitchen to make food for the whole family. Little did I knew then, that it would be my life’s calling to take up cooking as a life time passion. Watching my mother make extraordinary dishes from everyday ingredients was magic to my eyes and taste buds. I was intrigued by the art of cooking.
As a family, we are fortunate to have agricultural farms where we grew paddy, legumes, all kinds of vegetables and fruits. Seeing the seeds blossom into saplings and their transformation into fruit bearing plants and trees is another most cherished phase of my childhood. I guess I was born with an innate and intrinsic love for food and all that is connected to it.
As I grew up this love only became deep rooted. I joined the hotel management program at IHM, Bhopal. All the love at a feeling level started transforming into credible action. This stint helped me learn the technique and technology in making amazing food. During my time at IHM, Bhopal I was introduced to the YES!+ workshop of the Art of Living foundation. One of the modules of this workshop was about food, rather the right kind of food. It helped me understand how food influences our very existence, “jaisa ann, vaisa mann” became a statement of deep thinking for me. It started me on a journey to rediscover food that is nourishment for sure but also food for the soul.
Very shortly after that I found my way to the scenic, serene and beautiful Bangalore Ashram of the Art of Living foundation, where I was privileged to be part of the initial team to start Café Vishala. It started as a simple effort to provide a healthy variety of food to visitors. Today, it is a booming café with a spread in Indian, Continental, Italian and Chinese cuisines. I grew along with the café and now handle the entire baking section of the café along with dishing out some healthy and yummy dishes by the way.
This blog is my humble attempt to share my knowledge and re-introduce you to the world of cooking through my eyes. I will be glad to listen to your opinions on my posts. Look forward to yet another exciting journey.
